Edge Bar Soho has closed; to re-open as Soho Square Restaurant & Cocktail Bar

And so another London gay bar bites the dust.

Edge Bar Soho (11 Soho Square, W1D 3QE) joins The Green Carnation, Manbar, The Black Cap and Barcode on the list of London gay bars and clubs that have closed this year.

The four storey bar is being redeveloped under the new name Soho Square Bar which will open shortly as a restaurant, cocktail bar and event space.

The newly redeveloped space will no doubt attract business from Soho’s ever growing market for casual dining and visitors from the soon to be redeveloped Tottenham Court Road Underground & Crossrail station at a hitherto unloved end of Oxford Street.

It would be remiss not to acknowledge that the operating environment for all of London’s night-time economy is tough. However, with many other venues under threat the rate of closures is alarming and it will do long term harm to London, particularly its status as a tourist destination.

More details of the new redeveloped venue are online.
