Channel 4 lights up Trafalgar Square in the colours of the rainbow to mark launch of Cucumber, Banana and Tofu

London’s Trafalgar Square has been bathed in colour over the past two nights as the UK’s first ever night rainbow lit up the evening sky.

The night rainbow was commissioned by Channel 4 to mark the launch Russell T Davies’ new trio of shows Cucumber, Banana and Tofu which premiere on Channel 4, E4 and 4oD on Thursday this week.

The installation was created by greyworld and measures 30 metres wide by 15 metres high.

It’s good to see public art like this on display, particularly during what is ordinarily such a depressing month of the year!

It’s something we’d like to see repeated in London and for an example of how effective public art can be, take a look at how Montreal’s gay village celebrates summer.

Cucumber, Banana & Tofu launch on Thursday 22 January, 9pm on Channel 4, 10pm on E4, 10.30pm 4oD.
