The days when Heaven was a venue for house music pre-dates our time in London. For us personally, with Popcorn falling on a school night, it has always been associated with Jeremy Joseph’s trio of unashamedly uncool Thursday-Saturday night events.
House music makes a return to Heaven on Sunday 5 May 2013 with Summer Rites presenting “One Night In Heaven A Taste Of Pride In The Park” from 10pm to 6am. This is a launch event for an outdoor event on Saturday 29 June 2013 (Pride Weekend), details of which are yet to be confirmed.
The organisers promise four rooms bringing together clubs such as East Bloc, Bear Necessity’s, WAR, Dish, Butch, Love Child, Popcorn, Foundation, Bloc Heads, R’n’She, Songs of Praise, Queer Nation, Bootylicious, Tranny Shack and Gay Bingo.
The long roster of DJs includes Pagano, Alan K, Adam Turner, Tony English, Tom Stephan, Borja Penna, Kris Di Angeles, The Lovely Jonjo, The Sugarlow Boys, Neil Prince, David O’Bryan, Q Boy, Jeffrey Hinton, Marc Ashley Dupé, Dusty O, Lady Lloyd, Tasty Tim, John Sizzle, Paul Coals, Tim Jones, Louis Lennon, Alan X, Ben Jamin, Jonny Woo and Ma Butcher.
It’s good to see a large scale event in the West End which is often criticised for lacking the scale of venues south of the river. It will be in competition with We Party Airlines on the same night, and will no doubt attract some who have become disaffected with, or are in search of an alternative to, We Party. Hopefully, this is also a precursor to regular Sunday night events on Bank Holiday weekends at Heaven.
